Lulua Figure - D.R. Congo
A beautiful example of classic Lulua statuary, with emphasized cranial size and drowsy, half-closed eyes. Myriad scarification patterns cover the surface of this female figure with tight curves, swirls, tracks, diamonds, chevrons, and more. Above the low-slung apron projects an exaggerated umbilicus. On the reverse, a richly textured veneer of incisions wrap the head and neck. A lovely and intensely detailed example of Congolese sculpture.
