Swazi Knobkerrie - Swaziland

A rare Swazi knobkerrie.

Knobkerries are strong, short wooden clubs with heavy rounded knobs on one end and traditionally used in southern African as a weapon. They are wielded as clubs or thrown as missiles.

This is a unique kerrie with stylistic similarities to known Swazi examples. The master carver who created this piece carved the finial as a series of stepped and inwardly angled disks, creating the impression of a bulging-eyed face.

Fine, old patina. Good condition, old and stable split on rear of finial as seen in image.
