Zulu Milk Vessel - South Africa

Milk pails were made by highly skilled carvers and were commissioned by the heads of homesteads. This is a fine example with its particularly elegant, elongated form. Functionally, the deeply carved decoration on the vessel gives the user traction when holding it between his knees to milk a cow.

Good condition, one handle has been split and been re-attached.
