Stick with Figural Finial - South Africa

This very rare stick originates from South Africa – a precise attribution has yet to be obtained. The smooth, sinuous, supple aesthetic common to South African carvers marks its large surmounting figure with a defining stamp. Careful detail work in the face and at the neck, skirt and knees and face bring a developed intricacy to the rounded and carefully formed body. Pokerwork designs embellish the shaft beneath the figure's feet. A beautifully executed and finely preserved piece of South African wood carving.
